Follow these driver safety tips for maximum protection on the road.
In addition to using the features provided in the Driver app, delivery partners can follow these rules of thumb for a safe and confident experience.
- You can always cancel a delivery for safety reasons. Trust your intuition if you have a gut feeling something isn’t right. If you are not in immediate danger and wish to cancel a delivery, select Account and then Current deliveries in the Driver app to contact Driver Care. If you are injured or anyone’s immediate safety is threatened, please reach out to your local emergency services.
- Plan your route carefully. Before heading out, take the time to plan your delivery route to ensure you know how to get to your destination. The Grubhub Driver app is here to help: If you’re in a car, the app will direct you to your device’s default maps app when you click Navigate. If you use a bike, clicking Navigate will automatically sync your in-app navigation with your maps app to provide suggested bike routes.
- Manage your speed. Make sure you’re following the speed limit and adjusting based on weather, traffic, and road conditions. At times of inclement weather and poor road conditions in your market, you can expect additional communication from Grubhub.
- Take breaks when needed. Fatigue can increase your risk for accidents. Take breaks when you’re tired to help stay alert and focused on the roads. Grubhub offers the ability to take a pause while toggled on in the Driver app.
- Park in well-lit areas. At the merchant and when delivering to a customer, park your vehicle where there’s plenty of light.
- Don’t leave the engine running. When picking up orders at the merchant or dropping off with a customer, don’t leave your engine running. Rolling up windows and locking your doors is also recommended, even if you think you’ll be just a few moments outside your vehicle.
- Place the order where it’s easy to access. When driving, place food in the passenger seat or behind you so you can grab it quickly while remaining aware of your surroundings.
- Follow your local bicycle laws. Cyclists should take special precautions, use proper equipment, and follow local bike safety laws.
- Treat your e-bike with extra caution. E-bikes, especially their batteries and charging equipment, require proper handling for safe use.

Grubhub is actively committed to driver safety through the Driver Safety Council, and we encourage you to join. We take feedback to heart and have implemented many features to enhance safety such as:
- Rapid SOS: Grubhub offers emergency safety services directly in the Driver app. These include the 911 Slider to connect with a 911 operator, the Live Safety Agent Call to speak directly with an agent if you feel unsafe, and the Live Safety Agent Text.
- Situational Awareness Training: Grubhub provides all delivery partners free access to in-app short situational awareness videos. These cover topics such as Navigating Your Surroundings, Gas Station Safety, and more. Videos can be accessed directly in the Driver app’s Learninghub.
- Take a Pause: Grubhub offers the ability to “take a pause” while toggled on, pausing offers during that time with no negative impact to the delivery partner.
- Event Communication: Grubhub closely monitors market conditions in real time. In events such as inclement weather and other unsafe conditions, look for direct communication with guidance and potential market pauses.
